Gambian president wins 2016 African Diaspora Tourism Award

The President of the Islamic Republic of The Gambia, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya AJJ Jammeh Babili Mansa has been presented with an award of merit by the African Diaspora Tourism Awards 2016 that was held in Atlanta Georgia, United States of America.

In the same vein, the Minister of Tourism and Culture, Benjamin A. Roberts and The Gambia Tourism Board were awarded as the Tourism Minister of Distinction and the Tourism Board of the Year respectively. This information was contained in a letter signed by the Secretary General and Head of the Civil Service, Sulayman Samba. Below is the full text of the message:

“I write to convey Executive Directive to the effect that the African Diaspora World Tourism Award 2016 which took place in Atlanta Georgia from the 26th to 28th August 2016 presented an award of merit to His Excellency the President Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya AJJ Jammeh in recognition of His Excellency’s promotion of Africa/African Diaspora Unity and for initiating the International Roots Homecoming Festival. The organisers of the same ceremony also recognised the Hon. Minister of Tourism and Culture, Mr. Benjamin Roberts as Tourism Minister of Distinction and The Gambia Tourism Board as the Tourism Board of the Year.”

The Africa Diaspora World Tourism Award 2016 was attended by the Hon. Minister of Tourism and officials of The Gambia Tourism Board and those of The Gambia Embassy in Washington D.C. Dignitaries from other parts of Africa, the Caribbean and other parts of the world were also in attendance.

One of the outcomes of the deliberations was the proposal to hold the next Africa Diaspora World Tourism Awards in The Gambia as part of the 13th International Roots Homecoming Festival in 2018
